Description
Hop on a boat and sail back in time to experience the highlights of the Ruotsinsalmi naval battle 230 years ago. See the battle lines between Russia and Sweden and the different locations of shipwrecks past. As we pass through the narrows and straits, you will sense the battle...perhaps you can even imagine the echoes of the cannons and shipwrecks on the nearby rocks.
The first part of the boat tour will lead us to the narrow of Ruotsinsalmi, where we will navigate the many obstructions that were placed to prevent ships from passing through. From the Ruotsinsalmi narrow, we’ll head to the central battle area between Lehmänsaari and Kotkansaari, where over 400 Russian and Swedish ships fought in the second Ruotsinsalmi battle of June 1790. This became the graveyard of many of those very ships.
The Kukouri fortress was built here, in the middle of this area, after the battle. We will pay a visit to view the fortress walls, which have since been partially restored. What better place to imagine the battlefield of the ships?
On this tour, you will become familiar with the Kotka archipelago and the Ruotsinsalmi naval battle area. Not only that - you will experience it like a local, on a traditional Finnish wooden boat. The route takes us via waterways not suitable for larger boats, so you will feel the closeness of nature first hand, as you learn about the area and its history from the skipper.
Our services are flexible and can be tailored to take into account your individual preferences to ensure you get the most out of your boat tour, and an unrushed, relaxing experience as well.
